The ranking, which uses data going back to 2010, evaluates 20 indicators in four core areas: education (40 %), research (40 %), international diversity (10 %), and financial sustainability (10 %). The ranking assessed the world’s top 930 universities, from 80 countries, and their performance over the last eight years.
(A detailed breakdown of each indicator is available in the Methodology section on the RUR website: http://roundranking.com/library/methodology.html.)
Comenius University, which was ranked in 433rd place, scored highest in the areas of education (220th place).
First place was taken by Harvard University, which was followed by the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), the University of Chicago, Imperial College London, and Stanford University.
"Rankings of the world’s best universities are just one of the evaluation criteria we work with. Nonetheless, they are a popular indicator of scientometrics and they clearly show what sort of competitive international environment we are in and where we would like to see ourselves in the future. They are a form of motivation for us to do our job better and better," said Comenius University Rector, Professor Karol Mičieta.
