Syllabus of Paediatric Cardiology within the teaching of Paediatrics at Comenius University Bratislava

Lecture for all 5th year students: Introduction to pediatric cardiology
Lecture content: physical examination in pediatric cardiology, fetal circulation and changes at birth, differential diagnosis of cardiac murmurs - organic vs functional murmur, differential diagnosis of central cyanosis in pediatrics, pediatric ECG interpretation, chest X-ray interpretation - differential diagnosis of cardiomegaly, pathological heart silhouettes, imaging modalities in pediatric cardiology - echocardiography, cardiac catheterization, CT-angiography, cardiac MRI.
Lecture (1 group within a 1-week course: 2 hours)
Lecture content: Congenital heart defects (CHD) - classification, the most common CHD - Ventricular septal defect, Atrial septal defect, Atrioventricular septal defect, Patent ductus arteriosus, Tetralogy of Fallot, Transposition of the Great Arteries, Coarctation of the aorta.
Clinical practice (1 group within a 1-week course: 3 hours)
6th Year - pre-state exam internship
1-week course: 8 hours/day - consisting of 3 hour lectures and 5 hours practicals. Course is finished with written test.
Lecture topics: Heart failure in children. Systemic arterial hypertension in children. Noncritical congenital heart defects. Critical congenital heart defects. Arrhythmias in children. Endo/Myo/Pericarditis.
