General Information

The Department of Paediatric Cardiology (Faculty of Medicine in Bratislava - Comenius University) was founded in year 2003 aiming to improve the teaching of paediatric cardiology on a graduate level and to intensify scientific research activities in this field of study. Prof. Jozef Mašura MD., PhD., FSCAI, FESC, FAEPC became the first Head of the Department. On September 1st. 2020 Assoc. prof. Peter Olejník, MD, PhD. was elected as a new Head of the Department.

After obtaining the accreditation of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak republic in year 2010, the Department extended its focus on postgraduate education in paediatric cardiology, thus becoming the only institute within Slovakia enabling the specialization in the field of paediatric cardiology.

The graduate and postgraduate teaching takes place in the various departments of the Children's Cardiac Centre in Bratislava (The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases): inpatient ward / outpatient department, diagnostic department, cardiac ICU, postoperative ICU and the cardiac operating theatre.

The Department’s fundamental and inseparable keystone is the scientific research effort. The members of the academic staff are regular contributors of articles in specialized medical journals of domestic and foreign issue. They are also active participants at conferences concerning paediatric cardiology on a national and international level.
