The Institute of Histology and Embryology, Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University, cordially invites you to a lecture by its distinguished international guest, Prof. Dr. habil. med., Dr. med. Māra Pilmane, Head of the Institute of Anatomy and Anthropology, Faculty of Medicine, Riga Stradiņš University, Latvia.

Professor Pilmane has been leading this institute—comprising more than 75 employees—since 2009, following the merger of the previously independent Institutes of Anatomy, Histology, and Embryology. She is the author of over 200 indexed scientific publications, and her research focuses primarily on the development and congenital malformations of the face.

She has authored several textbooks on embryology and developed modern, innovative teaching methods in anatomy. She initiated the establishment of a unique collection of anatomical exhibits within the institute, known as Theatrum Anatomicum Rigense.

Her research in the field of implantable bone substitute materials for use in oral and maxillofacial surgery was recognized with the Certificate of Recognition from the President of the Latvian Academy of Sciences as the most significant scientific achievement of 2019.

Professor Pilmane is an elected member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, and in 2022 she received from the President of the Republic of Latvia the Order of the Cross of Recognition, with the title Officer of the Cross of Recognition, for her outstanding contributions to the state, society, education, and science.
