Welcoming Ceremony for International Students

On Monday, 11 February 2019, a welcoming ceremony for international students – who come to study at Comenius University in the summer semester of the 2018/2019 academic year – took place in the Faculty of Law’s Auditorium Maximum at Comenius University.

The Vice-Rector for International Relations, Professor Daniela Ostatníková gave a speech, presentations of Studia Academica Slovaca, Erasmus+ Student Network Slovakia and presentation of the course Unwritten rules in Slovakia were shown during the event.

"Studying in Bratislava has many benefits, you can get to know Slovak countryside and culture, visit capital cities situated nearby – Vienna and Budapest – and thus learn about Central European culture," said the Comenius University Vice-Rector, Professor D. Ostatníková, to the foreign students and emphasised the exceptionality of the University’s hundredth anniversary.

The summer semester of the 2018/2019 academic year will see 128 foreign students from 19 different countries come to Comenius University, 124 of whom come as a part of the Erasmus+ programme and four students come upon the basis of bilateral agreements. 158 foreign students, who came to CU in the 2018 winter semester, are continuing their studies in Slovakia in the 2019 summer semester.

The largest number of students who chose to study at CU come from France (18), followed by Spain (16) and Turkey (12). Students from Germany, Greece, Romania, Taiwan, USA and Japan are also among the Erasmus+ students.

The Faculty of Management at CU is welcoming the largest number of foreign students (48). The Faculty of Arts is welcoming 31 Erasmus+ students, the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Education will both welcome 9 students, the Faculty of Medicine will welcome 8 and the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine will welcome 6 foreigners interested in studying in Slovakia.
