International 3. Medical Day at LF UK
The 3rd International Medical Day once again brought together students from both the English and Slovak study programmes, creating a space for new knowledge, shared experiences, inspiration, and meaningful connections. The event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University, Prof. Juraj Payer, together with the Vice-Rector of Comenius University for Quality Assurance and Development, Prof. Viera Štvrtinová, and the Vice-Dean for the General Medicine Study Programme in English, Prof. MUDr. Ľudmila Podracká, PhD.
The programme offered a dynamic mix of lectures and discussions on current and important topics, including vaccination strategies, the risk of meningitis spread among students, mental health, and effective learning approaches. Important conversations also focused on communication with patients living with HIV and on reducing the stigma associated with drug addiction.
The practical part of the programme took place in the simulation centre, where students gained hands-on experience in abdominal ultrasound, laparoscopic techniques, and patient management in simulated clinical situations. Students of Dentistry also had the opportunity to refine their practical skills through workshops focused on suturing, indirect vision techniques, and modelling of dental restorations. The day concluded with a relaxed Garden Party, offering space for informal discussions, networking, and new friendships.
A special appreciation belongs to the student organizing team, composed of international students under the leadership of Afonso Mourão Carracha and under the guidance of Vice-Dean Prof. MUDr. Ľudmila Podracká, PhD. Their enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment were essential to the success of the event and helped create its welcoming and inspiring atmosphere.
The student organizing team included: Afonso Mourão Carracha, Raquel Minkwitz Moncada, Paris Giannetsos, Nayla Lucie Fernandez, Elif Ergün, Sobia Nida-Maria Hakim, Begzad Hamidy, and Huda El Ismail El Khalaf.
Throughout the day, there were countless conversations, shared moments, and smiles — reminding us that medicine is not only about knowledge, but above all about people.
Thank you to everyone who took part in this inspiring event. We look forward to seeing you again next year.
