The Institute of Medical Terminology and Foreign Languages at the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University in Bratislava, plays a significant role in this process. In collaboration with the National Health Information Center (NCZI), the institute has ensured the professional translation and review of the Slovak version of ICD-11, including a unique Latin translation of the diagnoses.

Key Features of ICD-11

  • Includes 68,000 codes for the detailed classification of diseases, disorders, symptoms, findings, and mortality.
  • A digital format with alphanumeric codes facilitates easier use and more accurate data recording.
  • Its innovative structure is compatible with modern IT systems.

  • Slovakia is the first country to translate ICD-11 not only into its national language but also into Latin.
  • Reviews of the Slovak translation are conducted by leading experts from the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic across various specializations.
  • The Slovak and Latin versions are planned to be published on the WHO website in 2025.
