He was born in 1981 in Komárno. In 2004, he graduated in anthropology from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava. He completed PhD degrees in anthropology (Faculty of Natural Sciences, CU) and pathological anatomy and forensic medicine (FMCU) in 2008 and 2010. In 2018, he was appointed professor in anatomy, histology, and embryology at Charles University in Prague. Since 2005, he has worked as a university teacher at the Institute of Histology and Embryology of the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University in Bratislava. Since 2022 he has been the head of this department. From 2010-2013, he worked as a clinical embryologist at the 1st gynaecological and obstetrical department of the FMCU in Bratislava. In 2019-2023 he held the post of vice-dean of the FMCU for science, research, grants, doctoral studies, and international relations. In his scientific work, he studies the variation of human anatomy, the microscopic structure and development of lymphatic organs, with a focus on the thymus and human female genital organs, as well as the ultrastructure of stem cells and newly discovered ligament cells, the so-called telocytes. He actively participates in the innovation of international histological terminology, holding the post of coordinator of the expert group for histology within the Federative International Program for Anatomical Terminology. He is the author or co-author of 12 textbooks and teaching texts, 3 scientific monographs and more than 150 scientific works in foreign and domestic journals indexed in the Web of Science or Scopus databases (of which over 90 publications are of current content), for which he achieved over 1500 citations. The height of his Hirsch index is 18. He was a member of the international advisory board for the 7th and 8th editions of Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy. For his achievements in the field of science, professor Varga was the laureate of the ESET Science Award in the category "Outstanding University Teacher" (2020), the laureate of the Jessenius Prize of the Slovak Medical Society (2021) and the laureate of the "Jaroslav Jirsa Prize" of Charles University in Prague for the best textbook in medical sciences for 2016. His rich international scientific cooperation made him an honorary member of the Argentine Association of Clinical Anatomy member, a visiting professor at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences in Kaunas, Republic of Lithuania, and a delegate for the Slovak Republic within the International Committee of Symposia on Morphological Sciences. He is a member of the editorial boards of international indexed journals Clinical Anatomy, Medicine, Clinical and Experimental Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and Morfologičeskie vedomosti - Morphological Newsletter. In Slovakia, professor Varga is a member of the Scientific Council of the Comenius University in Bratislava, the Scientific Council of the Medical Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava, the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava and a member of the Council of the Research and Development Support Agency (APVV) for international scientific and technical cooperation. He is responsible for the anatomy, histology and embryology doctoral study programme at the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University in Bratislava. Currently, he is responsible for solving VEGA, KEGA and APVV grants. He has supervised 5 doctoral students and led more than 60 graduates.
