First Aid (First Year)

First Aid – Course Information and Guidelines

Winter Semester 2026/2027

The First Aid course is conducted in collaboration with instructors from the Department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University (LF UK), and the National Institute of Children’s Diseases (NÚDCH).

Practical training for the winter semester 2026/2027 begins the week of September 21, 2026. The first practical sessions will be held on September 15th, 2026, according to the schedule.

Organizational Guidelines

Location

  • Simulation Center of Bory Hospital (Nemocnica Bory, Ivana Kadlečíka 2, 841 06 Bratislava).

Meeting Point & Time

  • Meeting point: The parking lot in front of the Emergency Department (see Getting to Bory Hospital).

  • Meeting time: Exactly 10 minutes before the scheduled start of class. Instructors will meet you at the parking lot and escort the group together to the Simulation Center.

Important Notice on Punctuality & Access

  • Access to the Simulation Center is permitted strictly under the escort of an instructor.

  • For safety and operational reasons, independent entry into either the Emergency Department or the Simulation Center is prohibited. Arriving late, i.e. after 08:20 a.m., means you will not be admitted to the session and will be required to compensate the missed class.

  • Please allow yourself sufficient transportation time—while Bory Hospital is accessible by public transport, bus connections and transfers may take longer than expected.

Compensatory Sessions

  1. During the regular semester: A compensation is possible only if the identical topic is being taught in another scheduled slot.

  2. Capacity limits: Due to strict room capacity constraints, only a limited number of students can be accommodated per session. You must verify and confirm availability before attending a compansatory class.

  3. Assessment (Credit) Week: Serves as an alternative period to complete missed training. Specific dates and times will be announced one week in advance.

Course Completion Requirements

  • 100% attendance at practical sessions (including properly completed compensation classes).

  • Final Evaluation: Assessment consists of verifying both practical competencies and theoretical knowledge:

    • Simulated Case: Independent management of a designated first aid scenario in a simulation environment.

    • Follow-up Questions: Brief oral examination by the instructor focusing on management protocols, rationales, and theoretical concepts across all covered topics.
